Janathon Day 8 – Jog Leading

As I mentioned yesterday, tonight was the first session of my running clubs Couch to 5K programme, which I am helping to jog lead. We had close to 50 expressions of interest in the programme and this evening 25 people showed up, with women in the overwhelming majority.

The weather obliged us by staying dry and we headed off for 8 reps of 60 seconds jogging, 90 seconds walking (plus walking warm up/cool down). The group turned out to vary greatly in ability level, so it was difficult to keep everyone together and the jog leader with the stop watch had difficulty getting the message out of when to run and when to walk. Thankfully we had an abundance of jog leaders, with me positioned at the back, so we were not in danger of leaving anyone behind.

I’m jog leading this group again on Sunday and we will have a little planning to do to iron out the creases: We have suggested that some runners join the club’s 5k group and for the remainder we will look at splitting into smaller groups that are a little easier to manage and can be more personalized.

So my Janathon exercise today was a 5k walk with some running intervals.

  1. Well done you — a great thing to offer other people

  2. Glad the weather was kind to you!

  3. Great that you are helping others to run, hope the numbers don’t dwindle too much, but maybe a bit to be more manageable. We had 50 at club this week, that must be double to usual, will be interesting to see if that continues

  4. That sounds like a great thing to do. Kind of wish I’d found something like this when I first started
